Alfred, New York
Richard S. Lang was born in Hornell, New York and reared in Alfred, New York. From kindergarten through high school, he attended the Andover School in Alfred. It was while he was at the Andover School, he met one of his early art mentors in William “Scotty” MacCrea. Richard would go onto study at Alfred, where he received his undergraduate degree in Ceramic Art and Design, as a student of Daniel Rhodes, Val Cushing, Ted Randall and Robert Turner. Since finishing at Alfred, Richard has been a fulltime dedicated studio potter. His pure forms with an outstanding glaze arsenal make him an important artist of the American Studio Pottery Movement. A portion of his exhibition record includes: Members of Business and Professional Women, lecture and demonstration, Wellsville, New York, 1975; Vasefinder Nationals/International, Vasefinder.com, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011.
